Think Differently. Grow Your Business Faster.

“I’m not creative”
It’s one of the biggest myths in business.
In fact, I’d go as far as to say it’s something I hear from entrepreneurs almost every week.
Many people believe creativity is something you’re either born with or you’re not. They associate it with being artistic, drawing, painting or designing but after my recent conversation with Jodie Newman, founder of The Business Allotment, I’m more convinced than ever that creativity is one of the most valuable business skills you can develop.
And the good news?
It’s a skill that can be learned.
Why creativity matters more than ever
We live in a world where it’s easier than ever to create content. AI can help us write emails, social media posts and marketing copy in seconds. Templates are everywhere and strategies are shared endlessly online but as more businesses begin to sound alike, standing out becomes harder.
That’s where creativity comes in.
Creativity isn’t about being the loudest person online, it’s about thinking differently. Looking at problems from another angle, finding new ways to communicate your message and creating experiences your audience actually remembers.
Your story is your greatest advantage
One of my favourite parts of the conversation with Jodie was when we talked about brand storytelling.
Many business owners worry that sharing their story is self-indulgent however the reality is quite the opposite. Your story provides context and it helps people understand why you do what you do. It builds trust and most importantly, it helps potential clients answer one very important question… “Why should I choose you?”
Your experiences, challenges and journey are unique. No one else has lived your story in exactly the same way and that’s what makes it one of your biggest competitive advantages.
Stop trying to sound like everyone else
It’s easy to look at other businesses and think “Maybe I should do what they’re doing.” The problem is that if everyone copies everyone else, every business begins to blend together.
Jodie shared a phrase during our conversation that really stayed with me… ‘Businesses don’t need “business as usual” thinking. They need “businesses unusual” thinking’.
I love that.
Sometimes the biggest opportunity isn’t learning another marketing tactic, it’s giving yourself permission to think differently.
Creativity grows when you use it
One of the simplest ideas Jodie shared was to spend just one minute each day exercising your creative thinking.
Not creating content.
Not working.
Simply challenging your brain to think differently.
Like any muscle, creativity becomes stronger the more you use it. That might mean trying a new hobby, reading fiction, taking a different route on your morning walk or simply asking yourself better questions.
The goal isn’t perfection… it’s curiosity!
A different way to think about digital products
At this year’s Online Business Growth Summit, Jodie will be introducing her wonderfully named Chicken Nugget Philosophy.
It’s a simple but powerful framework designed to help entrepreneurs package their expertise into digital products that people genuinely want. Rather than feeling overwhelmed by everything you know, the framework helps you identify the most valuable “nuggets” of your knowledge and turn them into something practical and transformational for your audience.
I can’t wait for you to experience it.
Final thoughts
If there’s one thing I took away from this conversation, it’s this… business growth doesn’t always come from doing more. Sometimes it comes from thinking differently.
When you allow yourself to be curious, experiment with new ideas and tell your story authentically, you stop trying to fit into your industry and start creating your own space within it and that’s where the real magic happens!
